Central Instrumentation Cell (CIC)

The Central Instrumentation Cell (CIC) of the College houses important sophisticated analytical instruments. Presently, Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer, UV_VIS Spectrophotometer, High Performance Liquid Chromatography, Freeze Dryer, Analytical Balance are available in the Cell. These instruments are purchased under the assistance of ICAR, New Delhi through its scheme ‘Strengthening & Development of Agricultural Education in the SAUs ‘. These equipments are essential in teaching the practical aspects of analytical biochemistry.

The equipments have been quite useful in teaching and demonstration of methodologies of several biochemical techniques involving applications of above equipments to BFSc and MFSc students. The AAS is utilized for analysis of heavy metals like Lead, Cadmium and Arsenic. The UV_VIS Spectrophotometer is utilized for quantitative analysis of proteins, polypeptides, amino acids, glycogen products etc. The HPLC is employed for qualitative and quantitative analysis of nucleotide bases, peptides, amines and amino acids. Freeze dryer is used for lyophilisation of protein samples like proteins, peptides, gelatins etc.

The application of above equipments has helped in improving the knowledge of the students in understanding practical biochemistry which is an integral curriculum part of BFSc and MFSc programmes being conducted by the College.
